In terms of organization, this book does not align with the warfighting functions (Movement and Maneuver, Fires, Intelligence, Sustainment, Command and Control, Protection); instead, the authors opted for a more systemic approach. They argue that there are significant differences between Russian warfare and U.S. military tactics, particularly in how the warfighting functions interrelate. Consequently, they believe that any comprehensive analysis of this system should begin with a description of the Russian system and subsequently analyze the functioning of the warfighting components within it. Additionally, they have chosen to address Russian force structure, tactics, and modernization in one document, as these elements are inextricably linked: understanding one requires a grasp of the others. Importantly, the term “Soviet” is frequently used throughout this book because the current Russian system is fundamentally built upon what has been preserved, modified, and enhanced from their Soviet legacy, making that historical context relevant where noted in this book. Finally, this book will soon be available as an audiobook on Audible.com.
